C A T C H was born in Ystalyfera on March 6th 2013, after a rather extended gestation.
CATCH first ‘open’-ed at St David’s Church Hall, Ystalyfera, on July 3rd 2103. It now operates from the Vestry of (the former) Gurnos Chapel, Gurnos Road, Ystalyfera (opposite Mariano’s Fish Bar). We are open between the hours of 11 and 2, every Wednesday and Friday..Regular collection of donated food items is now under way both by individual donations through our drop-off points, and periodic set-piece collections at supermarkets – we have to date had one at ASDA and one at TESCO.
CATCH is registered as a charity with HMRC, reference EW01805. A lot of hard work has been done to create the procedures necessary for CATCH to administer its stock to provide practical support (initially crisis food packs) and to offer personal support (advice or signposting to other agencies) to all those in Cwmtawe – individuals, young and old; families, lone parents – who have been thrown into the deepest need by changes to welfare in an already difficult economic/work situation – or who soon may be. CATCH has also striven – and the work is ongoing – to ensure it has management and protection processes fit for a professional organisation in the twenty-first century, even though we are an entirely voluntary organisation.
